In my previous post about thrifting, I shared with you what I was able to find on an impromptu shopping trip to a second-hand store. I know most things don’t look great on a hanger and it’s hard to envision them on a person so I thought I’d show you what the items look like as I wear them. Recently I went on a commercial audition for Adidas and wore my Petticoat Alley blouse with some black leggings and a white “leather” jacket.
(By the way, I think the friction of my leather purse strap on my “leather” jacket was the reason for a not-so-small tear I noticed in its shoulder yesterday. Sad face. If anyone knows how I can fix that, I would love some advice.) Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve known Tayen for a few years now–she even helped my husband and I with some great marriage counsel when we were still wet behind our ”dating” ears. This one is so multi-faceted that I’ve even heard others ask “What DON’T you do?” I feel the same sometimes when I’ve been with her from art show, to church conference, to bible study, to animation project, to photo shoot. She is a great girl to have in your tool belt and as a source of encouragement and support. Read the rest of this entry »

Ordinarily I interview artists who have been on the scene for years, but my recent shoot with Amanda has sparked my new Featurette series. These articles focus on the individuals who are taking steps in a new direction, and I hope that this inspires anyone who’s been stuck living a life that is no longer satisfying them. Have you ever wanted to just quit your job, move somewhere else, and start over in a new profession? I wouldn’t suggest such a stark change, but Amanda will share with you how she’s quickly making her shift from the office to the lens. I’ve been very blessed by her response to my questions, and I know you will “walk away” with some great nuggets of advice as well. Read the rest of this entry »

About two weeks ago, a lovely young lady found my site through a link I left on Facebook and had some inquiries regarding her interest in acting and modeling. After exchanging a few emails with Anais, I was booked as her photographer for her very first shoot! I grabbed my good friend Tayen of Tayen Styles to do hair and makeup and we were set. Everything I recommended for Anais to prepare for this day was taken to heart and I could not have been more pleased with the organization and commitment she presented to my team. I’ve given a few tips on modeling, auditioning, headshots, and what to expect on set. However, I don’t want you getting the wrong idea that this is a glamorous lifestyle or that it’s even an easy one. My major advice to anyone breaking into the “biz” is–until you get a steady gig–DON’T QUIT YOUR DAY JOB. This is why you’ll see most actresses working a job in retail or serving at your local restaurant. There is nothing wrong with that–we have to pay our bills somehow. Fortunately, I went to school for Television Production before discovering that I wasn’t done playing in front of the camera yet. Due to that schooling, I’ve become proficient at editing, photography, music production, etc. I’d say my ratio of income that comes from doing what I’m able to do verses doing what I want to do is about 50/50. This sometimes varies depending on how many projects are booking at any given time. Read the rest of this entry »
